As part of Lend Lease’s committed programme of proactive asset management at Kent’s iconic shopping centre, Bluewater, an improved fast-food family dining area was required to enhance the customer experience and utilise the space available.
Leslie Jones Architecture’s plans for the £7 million project focused on creating modern, high-quality space for The Wintergardens. Innovative designs were used to improve the provision of seating and provide more catering units.
A clear and legible dining area was formed by levelling out the floor-plate and removing excessive mall furniture and planters, while striking new facilities and flooring mirror a restaurant environment. Leslie Jones realigned and opened up the kiosks to provide customers with a clear choice of the dining options available, while enabling tenants to install innovative new fit-outs.
Leslie Jones utilised views over the lake for an extension by projecting the new mezzanine level into The Wintergardens, this extension created an additional unit for new tenant, Giraffe. A creative lighting system was introduced to maximise the impressive atrium and appeal to customers during the day and into the evening.
As a result, The Wintergardens is an alluring social dining experience that has attracted exciting new brands, six of whom chose Bluewater for their first outlet outside of London, including Wasabi, Tortilla, Square Pie and Tossed. The innovative seating arrangement has also increased available space by over 50 per cent to 1,000 covers.
