A programme of asset management initiatives to turn the O2 Finchley Road into a thriving and diverse retail asset.
- Client: Land Securities
- 416,950 sq ft refurbishment project
- Working within an existing asset
- Catering and retail uses
Following Land Securities’ purchase of the O2 Centre in Finchley, Leslie Jones Architecture was appointed to oversee the strategy and implementation of an asset management review of the 416,950 sq ft centre.
In order to attract new occupiers and take advantage of The O2’s favourable catchment, Leslie Jones designed an extension to bring modern units to the centre that would appeal to tenants and enable greater brand affiliation. Further realignment of the existing mall ensures this also meets the needs of both occupiers and shoppers alike.
The scheme’s offering has been improved by the introduction of new food and beverage units and an atrium mezzanine area for Yo Sushi. Leslie Jones kept future development plans in mind by rationalising this space into one area, while opening up the centre’s offering onto Finchley Road through an extended external balcony for tenants Frankie & Benny, Wagamamas and Rossopomodoro.
As retail and leisure specialists, Leslie Jones understands the needs of leading retailers and restaurant operators and was therefore able to work their requirements into the initial design, creating a functional development and ensuring a timely delivery. As a result, the scheme successfully attracted retailers including Bo Concept, Paperchase and Oliver Bonas.
