The masterplan for a New Quarter in the city of Leeds, complete with residential, retail and leisure.
- Client: Hammerson and Town Centre Securities
- 600 residential apartments
- Comprehensive retail and leisure offer
- Heritage design context
Hammerson and long-term Leeds investor, Town Centre Securities, required a new mixed-use vision for the Eastgate and Harewood site in Leeds city centre.
In order to create a new, vibrant and relevant location for the city, Leslie Jones Architecture working with Farrells created a mixed-use masterplan including 600 residential apartments, 100,000 sq m of retail and leisure space and significant public realm works.
In order to provide local amenities for the new residential units, an integrated multi-screen cinema and food and beverage offer was included in the development. The masterplan also included provision for two department stores within the retail space.
The scheme resided within a historical part of the city and Leslie Jones therefore led extensive negotiations with national design and heritage bodies resulting in the masterplan achieving a hybrid outline planning consent at first submission.
